Kochi is the main access point for reaching Lakshadweep. There are many options available in the form of flights and boats departing from mainland India. Visitors can obtain permission to enter Lakshadweep before travelling by contacting a local tour provider or the Lakshadweep Tourism Office located in Kochi.
Flight Options
Flights are direct from Cochin International Airport in Kochi to Agatti Airport, which is the only airport in Lakshadweep. The distance from Kochi to Agatti is approximately 300 kilometres and takes around 1.5 hours to fly. Airlines, such as Alliance Air, provide scheduled flights on a regular basis. Charter flights are also available through some airlines for larger groups. Tickets should be booked early as there are a limited number of seats available. Once on Agatti, ferries or helicopters depart to other islands within Lakshadweep, such as Thinnakara, Kavaratti, and Kadmat.
Ship Schedules
Seven ferries, such as MV Kavaratti, MV Minicoy, and MV Lakshadweep Sea, ferry passengers to Lakshadweep from Willingdon Island Jetty in Kochi on a regular basis. The travel time will vary from 14–24 hours depending on which island you are travelling to and will offer economy and air-conditioned cabins. Most ferries run from Saturday–Thursday for passenger transportation to Lakshadweep Islands. The SPLTH maintains a schedule of sailings for its member ferry operators.
